Jeanne Moreau, sponsor of Star Photos

The Star Photos auction will take place on Tuesday 15 June 2004 at the InterContinental Le Grand Hôtel Paris, from 7 p.m

The international press freedom organisation gave each star a disposable camera and asked them to capture moments in their daily lives or things that move them - such as appearing at the Cannes Film Festival, their pets, behind the scenes on a film set, their friends and so on, not forgetting to take at least one self-portrait, to crown the happiness of one of their fans.

The undeveloped cameras will be sold at auction at a charity gala in Paris on Tuesday 15 June. The money raised will help Reporters Without Borders continuing its work promoting press freedom worldwide and fostering public support for its campaign.

Last year, the 65,000 euros raised at the 2nd Star Photos event, enabled Reporters Without Borders to provide financial help to families of 29 journalists jailed in Cuba and help with transport costs after they were moved to jails hundreds of kilometres from their homes, cover housing costs for five Haitian journalists exiled in the Dominican Republic and give financial help to the wife of Chinese cyberdissident Huang Qi - serving a five-year jail sentence - to send his son to school, pay lawyer’s fees and send food into the prison.

Reporters Without Borders hopes fans of the stars will attend the auction. Those who bid successfully for the cameras can develop the film and discover the 24 surprises left for them or keep the autographed cameras intact.

The auction will be conducted by Pierre Blanchet during an evening hosted by Ariel Wizman, in the presence of the event’s sponsor Jeanne Moreau and French TV personality Thierry Ardisson. It will take place on Tuesday 15 June 2004, in the Salon Opéra of the InterContinental Le Grand Hôtel Paris (Place de l’Opéra - 2, Rue Scribe, 75009 Paris) from 7pm.
