Karam Hussein, an iraqi photographer, was leaving his home on 14 October 2004 when a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire with semiautomatic weapons. The motive for the killing is unclear but many Iraqis working for foreign news organizations have been killed and threatened in recent months.
Karam Hussein, 22, had been working for the past three months for the Frankfurt-based European Pressphoto Agency (EPA). He previously worked for the US news agency, the Associated Press (AP). Reached in Frankfurt, EPA editor Cengiz Seren said four gunmen were waiting for him outside his home and shot him in cold blood before he could flee.
