Gunmen killed Gregorio Rodríguez Hernández, a photographer with the daily El Debate in Escuinapa (in the northwestern state of Sinaloa), on 28 November as he was dining in a restaurant with his wife and two children. He was shot in the head, neck and chest, and died instantly.
The police have identified the presumed killer. It is Antonio Frausto Ocampo, a hit man working for the Sinaloa cartel. Rodríguez is believed to have taken photos on 20 November showing former police chief Abel Enrique Zavala with Frausto Ocampo at a party. The contract killer was drunk at the time and was firing in the air. The alleged accomplices have also been identified. One of them, Abraham Cedano Ornelas, was arrested at the beginning of December.
