A freedom wind blows for Florence and Hussein

More than 150 hot-air balloons will fly for Florence and Hussein

At the initiative of Reporters Without Borders, the newspaper Libération and the Pilâtre de Rozier Organisation, hundreds of hot-air balloons will take off at the same time in France and in other European countries displaying photos of Libération correspondent Florence Aubenas and her Iraqi guide, Hussein Hanoun, who are being held hostage in Iraq.

These simultaneous ascents, the latest in a series of demonstrations of solidarity with the two hostages, will take place on 4 and 5 June, when Florence and Hussein will complete their fifth month in captivity.

The Reporters Without Borders hot-air balloon will take off at 7:30 p.m. on 4 June from the Château of Versailles, one of the best-known locations in France, in the presence of Florence’s father, Benoît Aubenas, Libération director Serge July and Reporters Without Borders secretary-general Robert Ménard. The families of the hostages and all those who have been campaigning on their behalf hope that the photos and video footage of this ascent will be seen around the world.

In the event of bad weather, the balloon ascents scheduled to take place on 4 June will be postponed until the following morning.
