Truong Quoc Huy, cyber-dissident

Truong Quoc Huy, 25, has been held since 18 August 2006 for using the Internet to try to "overthrow the government." The police arrested him as he was taking part in a pro-democracy chat forum on Paltalk. He is also accused of giving interviews for foreign radio stations in which he voiced support for the 8406 group, a Vietnamese pro-democracy movement founded in April 2006. Other 8406 members are being harassed by the authorities.

Truong was already arrested for similar reasons on 19 October 2005 along with his brother, Truong Quoc Tuan, and his fiancee, Lisa Pham. All three were held for nine months without being able to see a lawyer or their relatives, before finally being released on 7 July 2006.
