Bhist, a cameraman with the Asian News International agency who was wounded
and permanently paralysed in a 2001 attack on the Indian parliament, died
of internal bleeding on 9 January 2003 after falling out of his wheelchair.
Five gunmen, probably from Pakistan, attacked parliament on 13 December
2001, killing eight policemen and a gardener before being shot dead by
security forces. Bhist, who was covering the episode, was hit in the spine
and hospitalised at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences until
The following month, three Muslims from Indian Kashmir were sentenced to
death for planning the attack.
